Chloe Barnes, PhD.

I am a PDRA in the Quintana lab with a focus on immunoparasitology. Before joining the lab in March 2025 I completed my undergraduate, master's and PhD at Lancaster University. Throughout my undergraduate degree I became interested in infectious diseases and particularly neglected tropical diseases. As a final year student, I was assigned a project working on Trypanosoma brucei and have stayed with this parasite up until now. My Master’s focussed on more molecular mechanisms of infection before my PhD moved me over to the side of immunology. In the Quintana lab my research focusses on localisation of T. brucei to the GI tract and the potential influence on the observed brain pathology and sleep disturbances. Outside of work I enjoy spending time outdoors in nature, hiking and bird watching.
