Olivia Shorthouse

I’m Olivia, originally from a small town in Somerset, UK. After completing a Biochemistry degree at the University of York in 2021, including a year in industry at Novartis Institutes for Tropical Diseases (San Francisco), I moved to Edinburgh in 2021 for an MRes in Reproductive Sciences. In 2022, I joined the Wellcome Trust Immunomatrix in Complex Diseases PhD programme at the University of Manchester and am now in my final year. In the Quintana lab, I study how T. brucei infections can affect female reproduction, looking at both the Hypothalamus/Pituitary/Gonad axis and the female reproductive tract itself. Outside of the lab, I’m a keen netball player and avid hiker, where I enjoy spending weekends outside, either in the peaks or the Lake District.
